The biological functions and composition of human blood
Human blood functions as a complex living tissue and a delivery system for the entire body. Driven by the heart, blood circulates through the organism to transport oxygen to cells, distribute nutrients and hormones, remove waste products, mobilize immune defenses, and help maintain body temperature.
When separated via centrifuge, blood consists of two primary components: plasma and cellular elements. Plasma is a yellowish liquid composed mainly of water, proteins, hormones, mineral salts, and nutrients, representing approximately 55% of blood volume. Suspended within the plasma are three types of cells: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
