The Block faces viewer backlash over AI-driven content

Channel Nine has integrated artificial intelligence into the 2026 season of the Australian renovation series The Block, using AI for animations, talking animals and music. Post‑production executive producer David Barbour told the media that AI is a creative tool that adds options without replacing the show's core elements.

A vocal segment of viewers has criticised the AI‑generated songs and animations, describing them as “lame” and threatening to boycott the program. Some fans posted on Reddit that the AI music is “the last straw” and expressed disappointment with the new direction.

Former contestant Alicia Aplin defended the use of AI, noting that music licensing costs are high and that the AI‑produced tracks can be humorous. She said the AI approach is “fun” and helps the show manage expenses.
