The Boring Company advances Dubai Loop tunnel project

The Dubai Loop passenger transport tunnel project has reached a new milestone with the commencement of tunnel boring machine (TBM) assembly and the production of precast concrete tunnel-lining segments. This progress follows a meeting in Dubai between Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and Steve Davis, President of The Boring Company.

The pilot phase of the project involves a 6.4km underground route featuring 3.6m-diameter tunnels designed for electric vehicle transport. This initial phase will connect the Dubai International Financial Centre with the Dubai Mall, utilizing four stations and is expected to carry approximately 13,000 passengers per day. The estimated cost for this pilot scheme is roughly AED 565 million (US$154 million).

Following the implementation agreement signed in February 2026, technical workstreams are progressing in parallel, including the casting of approximately 25,000 concrete lining segments. The long-term masterplan for the Dubai Loop envisions an expansion to 22.2km with 19 stations, potentially linking the Dubai World Trade Centre and the financial district with Business Bay, with a total capacity of 30,000 passengers per day.
