The Boring Company raises $3 billion for global tunnel expansion
Elon Musk’s The Boring Company has secured $3 billion in a new funding round, raising the company’s valuation to $23 billion. The investment was led by entities from the United Arab Emirates, including Shamal Holding, alongside major venture capital firms such as Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), and Valor Equity Partners.
The capital is earmarked for expanding underground transportation infrastructure and refining the company’s mechanical digging technology, specifically the Prufrock machine. A primary focus of this funding is the Dubai Loop project in the UAE, which aims to create a network of tunnels exceeding 150 kilometers in length by the end of 2026.
In addition to Middle Eastern expansion, the company continues to operate the Vegas Loop in Nevada and has begun work on a project in Nashville, Tennessee. While Musk’s original vision involved fully autonomous hyperloop-style transit, current operations focus on transporting passengers via Tesla vehicles through existing tunnel networks.
