Tim Farron invites PM Andy Burnham to visit Westmorland farms

Tim Farron, the MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, has invited Prime Minister Andy Burnham to visit local farms to discuss the challenges facing the British agricultural sector. Farron is promoting a Liberal Democrat petition to ‘Back British Farming’, highlighting concerns regarding food security and the impact of inheritance tax changes on family farms.

Farron noted that England is currently the only country in the UK and Europe that does not provide financial support to its farmers. He emphasized the importance of domestic food production in the face of international instability and climate change, noting that Britain produces only 55% of its required food. Additionally, Farron has called for urgent action to address the spread of the bluetongue virus through vaccine delivery.
