The Coalition promises faster Gears of War development

Mike Crump, director of The Coalition, has announced that the studio intends to accelerate the development cycle for future Gears of War titles following the release of Gears of War: E-Day. While the current installment took approximately seven years to develop, Crump stated that the next game will not take nearly as long, as E-Day has established a new technological foundation using Unreal Engine 5. This new technical base, which involved rebuilding visual and technical assets from scratch, is expected to allow for more agile production in the future.

The announcement comes amid broader corporate restructuring and layoffs within Microsoft Gaming. While The Coalition has largely avoided the major budget cuts seen elsewhere in the Xbox division, reports indicate internal concerns regarding job security following the game's launch. Crump addressed these concerns by emphasizing the team's focus on controllable factors, such as delivering high-quality products.

Additionally, the studio defended the decision to keep Gears of War: E-Day as an Xbox and PC exclusive. Despite previous shifts in strategy, the current leadership aims to use the franchise to showcase the power and capabilities of Xbox hardware to the industry.
