The Coalition discusses the future of Gears of War following E-Day

The Coalition has stated that the future of the Gears of War franchise following the release of the prequel, Gears of War: E-Day, remains undecided. During Gamescom, Creative Director Matt Searcy and Art Director Aryan Hanbeck indicated that the studio is currently entirely focused on the development of E-Day.

Searcy noted that there is a twelve-year gap in the series' timeline between the events of E-Day and the beginning of the original Gears of War. This period offers significant narrative potential to explore new stories within the universe. While the success of E-Day could influence future direction, no official plans for a sequel to Gears 5 or a direct Gears 6 have been confirmed at this stage.
