The Conjuring 4: Kuntilanak achieves box office success in Taiwan
The Taiwanese horror film ‘The Conjuring 4: Kuntilanak’ is seeing significant box office success, approaching 66 million TWD. The production team has integrated authentic elements of Southeast Asian folklore and local spiritual practices into the film's promotion and sound design.
Director Liao Shih-han revealed that the chilling laughter of the Kuntilanak spirit in the film was recorded during a real spiritual possession of a medium in Indonesia. This authentic audio was used directly in the final cut. Actress Chen Hsueh-chen shared that the intense physical and mental demands of filming caused her significant exhaustion, requiring six months of energy healing to recover.
To engage with local folk beliefs, the crew has organized promotional events involving deities such as Zhong Kui. Some audience members have even brought religious statues to cinema screenings. The production team has completed over 200 promotional appearances across Taiwan to connect with fans of the franchise.
