The film adaptation of Dan Brown’s bestseller, ‘The Da Vinci Code’, directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Hanks, marked a significant cinematic milestone in 2006. The production achieved global commercial success, grossing approximately $760 million against a $125 million budget.

Filming utilized iconic real-world locations to enhance its narrative, including the Louvre Museum in Paris, where scenes were shot directly inside the institution. Other notable settings included the Church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris and Westminster Abbey in London. Due to technical constraints, a reproduction of the Mona Lisa was used during filming rather than the original painting.

Despite its success, the film sparked widespread international controversy and censorship. The backlash centered on its religious themes, specifically the narrative suggestion regarding the relationship between Jesus Christ and Mary Magdalene. These plot points led to protests from Catholic figures and organizations, such as Opus Dei, which requested disclaimers to clarify the fictional nature of the work.
