The Defiant to debut at gamescom 2026

The first-person shooter The Defiant, developed by Hoothanes and published by 4Divinity, will make its Western debut at gamescom 2026. A 15-minute playable demo will be available to the public in Hall 7 from August 26 to 30, following a detailed presentation scheduled for the Opening Night Live event on August 25.

Unlike many historical shooters focused on European or Pacific theaters, The Defiant centers on the Second Sino-Japanese War between 1937 and 1945. The game follows ordinary soldiers through various Chinese landscapes, including occupied villages, frozen forests, and Japanese-controlled cities.

Gameplay emphasizes a mix of stealth and direct combat, featuring sabotage, infiltration, and intelligence gathering. The developers aim for historical accuracy in both settings and weaponry, such as the Hanyang Type 88 rifle. The title is planned for release on PC via Steam and various consoles.
