The Difficult Bride selected for Venice International Film Festival

Rubaiyat Hossain’s film ‘The Difficult Bride’ has been selected for the Orizzonti competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. Supported by the Fondazione Prada Film Fund, the film is the first from the fund's inaugural selection to be presented at a major international festival.

Set in contemporary Dhaka, the film follows a bride-to-be, Zaineen, as she navigates beauty rituals, social expectations, and supernatural forces. The project is an international co-production involving Bangladesh, France, Portugal, Norway, and Germany.

Actress Azmeri Haque Badhan, who appears in a guest role, praised the production for its high quality and its women-led environment, noting that most department heads on set were women. Badhan highlighted the importance of such narratives in Bangladeshi cinema, observing a growing movement toward women-centered stories.
