Netflix releases fourth season of political thriller The Diplomat

The fourth season of the Netflix political thriller ‘The Diplomat’ premiered on October 15, 2026. The new eight-episode installment follows US Ambassador Kate Wyler, played by Keri Russell, as she navigates a high-stakes international crisis involving a Russian nuclear weapon and a fractured relationship with her husband, Vice President Hal Wyler.

The season features intense plot developments, including an assassination attempt on US President Grace Penn near Windsor Castle and a high-stakes summit in Italy. Production designer Curt Beech noted that the series uses historical and international spaces to reflect the characters' roles as visitors in powerful, non-personal environments. While the show utilizes real-world diplomatic protocols and consults with former officials, the central conflicts and characters remain fictional.

Filming for the new season took place across various locations, including England, New York, and Italy, with the Tuscan city of Lucca serving as a prominent backdrop for key scenes. The season concludes on a cliffhanger at a G7 meeting, leaving the future of the characters and the potential for a fifth season uncertain.
