Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars released on digital streaming

The post-apocalyptic sci-fi film The Dog Stars, directed and produced by Ridley Scott, has arrived on digital streaming platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home. Based on the 2012 novel by Peter Heller, the film is set in 2035 following a devastating global pandemic that decimated the human population.

The story follows Hig, a pilot played by Jacob Elordi, who survives in a remote Colorado outpost with his dog, Jasper. His isolated life is disrupted when he receives a mysterious radio signal, prompting him to venture into the wasteland. He is joined by Bangley, a survivalist played by Josh Brolin. The ensemble cast also includes Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Allison Janney, and Benedict Wong.

Critical reception has been mixed. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 41% critics' score, with reviewers citing slow pacing and repetitive genre tropes despite praising the visual cinematography. However, audience reception is more positive, with a 69% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.4/10 on IMDb. The production, backed by 20th Century Studios and Scott Free Productions, had a reported budget of $110 million but has seen limited box office success.
