Venice Film Festival: The Echo Chamber debuts Bertolucci's final script

The film ‘The Echo Chamber’, directed by Andrea Pallaoro, is competing for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The project is based on a final screenplay written by the late director Bernardo Bertolucci before his death in 2018.

Starring Susan Sarandon, Alicia Vikander, and Luca Marinelli, the film explores the lives of a man and a woman living in the same apartment for 15 years without ever meeting. The narrative follows a music producer struggling with chronic pain and an increasing dependency on opiates as he falls in love with his doctor.

While some reviews highlight the film as a way to honor Bertolucci’s legacy and note Sarandon’s significant presence in the competition, other critiques suggest the film lacks the narrative strength and poetic atmosphere of the original master, describing the pacing as slow.
