The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered launches on Nintendo Switch 2
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has launched on the Nintendo Switch 2, following its previous releases on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. The remaster utilizes Unreal Engine 5 to provide enhanced visuals, including more detailed character models, improved lip-syncing, and atmospheric effects. It includes the original game along with the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansions.
Gameplay updates include a redesigned leveling system inspired by both Oblivion and Skyrim, overhauled third-person perspectives, and new features such as sprinting. Combat has also been updated with recreated animations, sound effects, and hit reactions.
Despite the visual improvements, the release faces criticism regarding technical stability. Reports indicate that the game continues to suffer from issues present in earlier versions, such as memory leaks, glitches, performance problems related to shaders, a 30fps cap, and freezing. While the Switch 2 version offers improved optimization for handheld play compared to some PC handheld devices, the underlying technical flaws remain a point of contention.
