The Elder Scrolls Online roadmap delayed to 2027 after Xbox layoffs
Following a wave of layoffs at Xbox that heavily affected ZeniMax Online Studios, game director Nick Giacomini announced an updated development roadmap for The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO). He assured the community that the MMO will continue and is not slated for shutdown. Content scheduled for 2026 will still arrive, including Update 51 on 28 September 2026 with the new Nowhere Vault trial, a Rumors system, UI customisation, additional Transmute stations and the permanent return of three‑sided Battlegrounds. Free versions of the Greymoor chapter and the Markarth DLC are also planned for later in 2026.
More complex features – the Crimson Veldt trial, Update 52 (bringing the Jerall Pass PvP zone and dynamic Skyrim encounters) and a full Class and Combat refresh – have been pushed to 2027 to preserve quality after the restructuring. The studio will work more closely with Bethesda Game Studios on future Elder Scrolls projects, while Season 1 and Season 2 of ESO’s new seasonal content model will proceed as scheduled.
