The Ellinikon redevelopment advances with Poseidonos Avenue undergrounding

Major redevelopment works are progressing at The Ellinikon, Europe’s largest urban renewal project. Following the delivery of the Sports Park in July 2026, focus is shifting toward the Little Athens residential neighborhood, which is expected to welcome its first residents in the first half of 2027.

A critical component of this infrastructure upgrade is the undergrounding of Poseidonos Avenue. The project involves constructing a new 1.15-kilometer tunnel designed to bypass heavily congested sections of the existing road. The new tunnel will feature six lanes—three in each direction—with a speed limit of 70 km/h. This intervention aims to significantly improve traffic flow in Athens' coastal area by eliminating six traffic lights that currently cause substantial delays.
