Ka Ying Rising faces wet track concerns for The Everest defense
Ka Ying Rising enters the $20 million Everest at Randwick as the $1.50 favourite, attempting to defend his title. However, heavy rainfall in Sydney has raised concerns regarding the horse's ability to perform on a wet track, as most of his career wins have occurred on firm ground.
Trainer David Hayes expressed significant concern over the track conditions, noting that while he is confident on a slow or dead track, a Heavy 8 or 9 rating would be a major challenge. Jockey Zac Purton will ride the gelding from barrier 11.
Rivals are looking to capitalize on the weather. Ninja, ridden by Tommy Berry, has shown strength on rain-affected ground and recently edged past Ka Ying Rising in a trial. Other notable contenders include Tempted, Joliestar, and Jimmysstar.
Bookmakers are bracing for a potential multimillion-dollar payout if the favourites win, particularly following the scratch of Pride Of Jenni from the King Charles III Stakes, which has shifted betting patterns toward Ka Ying Rising and Autumn Glow.
