The Flaming Lips announce new album ‘The Teardrop Throbs’
The Flaming Lips have announced their 17th studio album, ‘The Teardrop Throbs’, scheduled for release on January 22, 2027. This marks the band’s first album of new material since 2020’s ‘American Head’ and their first release through Jack White’s Third Man Records.
The upcoming project is the first since the departures of longtime members Michael Ivins and multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd. Frontman Wayne Coyne noted that the album’s themes draw from fatherhood, mortality, and childhood fears. The lead single, ‘God Will Control the Werewolves’, was inspired by a game of hide-and-seek with Coyne’s sons under a full moon.
Produced by the band alongside Taylor Johnson, Dave Fridmann, and Scott Booker, the 13-track album will be available in digital, CD, and various vinyl formats, including a limited ‘Teardrop Blue’ edition. To support the release, the band has scheduled a series of two-night performances in Nashville, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and London throughout early 2027.
