The Food Bank of Waterloo Region expands after-hours locker program

The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is expanding its After-Hours Food Locker program by adding four new locations. This expansion is supported by a $148,200 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, funded by the provincial government.

The program, which was piloted in 2024 at the Country Hills Community Centre, allows individuals facing food insecurity to access hampers containing fresh, frozen, and non-perishable items via refrigerated lockers. These lockers provide access during evenings and weekends to accommodate those with work or caregiving responsibilities.

The new locker sites include the Breithaupt Centre, the Kitchener Public Library’s Forest Heights location, and the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex. A fourth location will be established at the Cowan Recreation Centre, which is scheduled to open in late 2026.
