The Ford/Hill Project restages Supreme Court confirmation hearings

“The Ford/Hill Project,” a documentary drama created by Elizabeth Marvel and director Lee Sunday Evans, restages the historic Supreme Court confirmation hearings of Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh. The production uses verbatim transcripts from the 1991 testimony of Anita Hill and the 2018 testimony of Christine Blasey Ford to explore themes of patriarchal patterns and political scrutiny.

In the performance, actors use in-ear monitors to receive edited clips of the original audio, including stammers and pauses, to guide their delivery. The staging is minimalist, featuring a semicircle of nine chairs. The production has seen runs at venues including the Brooklyn Academy of Music and REDCAT.
