The Frisc nonprofit news site to close
The Frisc, a nonprofit news organization focused on San Francisco, has announced it will cease operations at the end of September. The decision stems from a lack of long-term financial sustainability.
Founded in 2017, the outlet specialized in civic issues, with a significant emphasis on housing affordability, homelessness, public transit, and education. Editor-in-chief and co-founder Alex Lash noted that despite support from loyal readers, the organization lacked the corporate backing or massive fundraising infrastructure required to maintain operations long-term.
Lash highlighted the outlet's role in catalyzing discussions around San Francisco's housing crisis and its success in launching the careers of several local reporters. The organization will publish a final few stories before closing.
