The Gambia and Zoomlion sign integrated waste management agreement
The Government of The Gambia and Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a subsidiary of the Jospong Group of Companies, have signed a concession agreement to develop the Gambia Integrated Waste Treatment Facilities. The agreement was signed by the Gambian Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs.
Phase 1 of the project involves the financing, design, and construction of a Mechanical Biological Treatment (MBT) plant and transfer stations. This phase also includes municipal solid waste collection, transportation services, and the decommissioning of the Bakoteh and Mile 2 dumpsites to recover materials such as plastics and metals.
Phase 2, scheduled to begin after the second anniversary of the project, will expand services to include liquid waste management and coverage in additional regions. The initiative aims to improve local sanitation, create employment for women and youth, and convert waste into agricultural and industrial resources.
