The Gambia commissions solar-powered livestock watering facility in Dingiri

President Adama Barrow has commissioned a new 50,000-liter solar-powered automated livestock watering facility in Dingiri, Tumana District, The Gambia. The project, funded by the Gambian government and the Islamic Development Bank under the Small Ruminant Production Enhancement Project, is designed to support approximately 6,000 cattle.

The facility can pump up to 49,000 liters of water daily and features an automated system that resumes pumping when the reservoir is depleted. Local farmers reported that the new infrastructure will eliminate the need to cross the border into Senegal in search of water, a practice that previously led to livestock getting lost or stuck in mud, particularly during the dry season.
