The Gambia hosts summits on regional competition and investment
The Gambia is hosting key regional and national economic forums aimed at strengthening market integration and investment efficiency.
The ECOWAS Regional Competition Authority (ERCA) has launched its inaugural annual conference in Banjul. Policymakers and regulators from across West Africa are meeting to discuss how competition policy can support regional trade, investment, and economic integration. The summit focuses on preventing monopolies and cartels to protect consumers, small businesses, and low-income households from market distortions.
Concurrently, the Gambia Investment and Export Promotion Agency (GIEPA) held a stakeholders’ workshop to optimize the use of investment incentives. GIEPA CEO Ousainou Senghore emphasized that fiscal concessions, such as those under the Special Investment Certificate and Export Processing Zone regimes, must be utilized effectively to drive industrialization, expand exports, and create employment. The workshop brought together various government institutions and private sector representatives to improve the ease of doing business in the country.
