The Gambia opposition coalitions propose reforms ahead of 2026 election
As The Gambia prepares for the December 5, 2026, presidential election, opposition coalitions are emphasizing the need for unity to challenge the incumbent. Both the Team Gambia Grand Coalition and The Gambia First Coalition have made pledges regarding term limits to address concerns over potential third terms for current leadership.
The Team Gambia Grand Coalition has introduced a nine-point agenda centered on constitutional reform, economic development, and increasing women’s representation in decision-making. The coalition aims to lift citizens above the poverty line within five years of taking office. Their campaign includes nationwide tours to establish regional structures and increase public awareness.
Meanwhile, Ousainou Darboe of The Gambia First Coalition has pledged to serve only one term. His platform includes delivering a new constitution, reforming the security sector, rebuilding the civil service, and organizing free and fair elections before handing over power.
