The Gambia political alliances form ahead of 2026 elections

New political alliances are forming in The Gambia ahead of the December 5, 2026, presidential election.

The No-To Alliance Movement Babili Mansa has announced that it will name its flagbearer in October. The movement, which includes representatives from the United Democratic Party (UDP), UNITE, Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), and PDOIS, issued a reconciliation statement in the name of former President Yahya Jammeh. The statement calls for former party members who had resigned or been expelled to return to the movement to foster unity for the sake of the nation.

Separately, the Team Gambia Grand Coalition 2026 was formally established following a national conference. Coordinated by Halifa Sallah and Sidia Jatta, the coalition resulted from a consultative process involving 13 political parties, various movements, and civil society organizations. The coalition aims to select and support candidates for the 2026–2027 electoral cycle through a collective process designed to ensure representation across different demographics and sectors.
