The Gambia signs $14.2 million contracts to electrify 241 communities

The Gambian government has signed electricity expansion contracts totaling approximately $14.2 million to connect 241 communities in the Central River Region (CRR) and Upper River Region (URR) to the national grid. The project is financed entirely through the national budget and will be implemented by the National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC).

The infrastructure development includes the installation of roughly 625 kilometers of new electricity lines, consisting of 377 kilometers of medium-voltage lines and 248 kilometers of low-voltage networks, along with 219 distribution transformers.

In the Central River Region, Alpha TND has been awarded an $8.81 million contract to service 148 villages. In the Upper River Region, Power Factor Limited will execute a $5.35 million contract covering 93 villages. This initiative is part of a broader national strategy to achieve universal electricity access by 2030, aiming to improve services in health facilities and schools while supporting local economic activity.
