The Gathering to end activity after Mandylion anniversary tour

Anneke van Giersbergen has stated that the Dutch rock band The Gathering has no plans to continue performing together beyond their current tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of the album ‘Mandylion’.

In an interview conducted at the Wacken Open Air festival in Germany, van Giersbergen reflected on the reunion process, noting that despite a 20-year hiatus, the band members felt an immediate connection as if no time had passed. She described the experience of performing the classic tracks as a way to revisit past emotions while approaching the lyrics with the perspective of adulthood.

Van Giersbergen emphasized the importance of keeping the reunion special, suggesting that continuing indefinitely might diminish the impact of the anniversary celebrations.
