The Great British Baking Show returns to Netflix with new judge

The Great British Baking Show is set to return to Netflix on Friday, September 25, with its 14th collection. This upcoming season marks a significant transition for the series, as it will be the first without long-time judge Prue Leith, who departed the show in January. Nigella Lawson has been announced as Leith’s successor.

In a retrospective look at the series' history, original host Mel Giedroyc revealed that the show’s signature calm atmosphere was not present during its inception. Giedroyc recalled that the first day of filming was an intense 18-hour shoot that left the crew in tears. She noted that she initially expressed a desire to leave the project, advocating for a change in direction to avoid the high-stress, emotional environment common in other reality television productions.
