The Hague African Festival cancels AfroBeats in the Park

The AfroBeats in the Park event, a component of The Hague African Festival (THAF), has been canceled for this year. Originally scheduled for September 19 at the Zuiderparktheater, the event cannot proceed because the organization failed to secure subsidies or alternative financing.

THAF director Augustina Austin stated that the decision was made to maintain the festival's core value of accessibility. She noted that if the organization cannot deliver a program in 2026 that aligns with their vision of inclusivity, they may choose to skip another year. Austin emphasized that this is not the end of the festival, describing THAF as a platform for talent and culture that will continue to invest in the community and creators.

The organization plans to use the upcoming period to develop new ideas, seek new partnerships, and explore locations and collaboration models that better suit their growing audience and ambitions.
