Den Haag coalition pledges 4,000 new homes yearly and expanded safety measures

The new municipal coalition in The Hague, formed by Richard de Mos’s party together with VVD, CDA and Denk, has laid out a four‑year programme that targets the construction of 4,000 homes each year. The plan emphasises middle‑rent and affordable‑owner housing, speeds up building permits, and drops paid‑parking extensions in several districts while freezing parking fees.

Housing policy also includes a specific youth‑housing action plan that will add 1,000 extra affordable residences for young people and give youth a formal voice in future decisions. The coalition will invest €105 million in construction and other projects without raising local taxes.

Public‑order resources are being expanded with 80 additional BOAs, more CCTV, stricter action against waste, intimidation and illegal road blockades, and a tighter approach to over‑crowded asylum centres – shifting from large facilities to smaller, neighbourhood‑compatible sites. The programme also proposes cuts of €42 million in municipal administration and tighter welfare‑benefit controls to keep the number of benefit recipients under 20,000.

Overall, the agreement aims to improve housing affordability, urban safety and fiscal balance for The Hague over the coming term.
