The Hague completes sewer replacement in Bohemen district

The Municipality of The Hague has completed the replacement of over 3,800 meters of sewage system in the Bohemen district. The project, which began in January 2025, replaced a system that was 95 years old to ensure the efficient discharge of wastewater and rainwater.

In addition to the sewage infrastructure, the municipality upgraded the surrounding public space. This included replacing manholes and house connections, renewing street paving with new bricks and asphalt, and improving greenery by providing better growing spaces for trees and plants.

To enhance traffic safety, sidewalks at street corners were widened to discourage illegal parking, and parking spaces were more clearly marked. The project also involved replacing street lamps where necessary. The Hague manages approximately 1,800 kilometers of sewage pipes, replacing about 16 kilometers annually at an estimated cost of 1.8 million euros per kilometer.
