The Hague faces criticism over urban planning and infrastructure projects

The Municipality of The Hague is facing criticism regarding urban development and infrastructure planning. In the Vlietzone area, a proposed access road intended to facilitate the relocation of waste companies to make room for 13,000 new homes has been drawn directly through the headquarters of Onderhoudsbedrijf Van Lochem. The company's director, Jack van Lochem, expressed frustration over the lack of official communication, stating he only learned of the plans through third parties and the media.

Separately, the municipal executive has halted plans for the redevelopment of the Hoefkade. This decision follows a coalition agreement to reopen the Hoefkade to traffic, reversing years of closure that had met local resistance. Alderman Adeel Mahmood stated that the halt is a necessary step to allow for new proposals that prioritize accessibility, livability, and traffic safety while incorporating feedback from residents and entrepreneurs.
