The Hague launches campaign to combat social polarization

The ‘Wij zijn Den Haag’ campaign launched on October 5 to combat social polarization and segregation in The Hague. Initiated by residents, social organizations, and philanthropic funds, the movement aims to break down social silos and foster connection among diverse groups within the densely populated city.

Mayor Jan van Zanen is serving as an ambassador for the initiative. Organizers, including Sanne de Maijer of Fonds 1818, noted that the campaign was inspired by discussions with American philanthropic funds regarding the consequences of extreme societal polarization. The campaign features a video filmed at the Amare cultural center, showcasing ten different local groups—ranging from football supporters and civil servants to newcomers and medical professionals—to demonstrate shared commonalities despite perceived differences.
