The Hague receives Braillepluim award for pier accessibility project

The Municipality of The Hague has been awarded the Braillepluim 2023 for the ‘Braille op de Pier’ project. This initiative placed eleven poems in Braille on the railings of the Scheveningen pier to allow blind and visually impaired visitors to experience the atmosphere of the sea and beach through literature.

The poems were selected through a competition involving residents of The Hague. One of the winning contributors is the young city poet, Insaf. Anne Mulder, the coordinating alderman for accessibility, accepted the award on behalf of the municipality and all involved parties, including the Association for Unlimited Reading, which praised the project for making cultural experiences more accessible to everyone.
