The Hartford appoints Morris Tooker as next CEO

The Hartford has announced a leadership succession plan where Morris ‘Mo’ Tooker will succeed Christopher Swift as Chief Executive Officer, effective March 1, 2027. Swift, who has served as CEO for nearly 13 years, will transition to the role of Executive Chair of the Board at that time.

Tooker, who currently serves as President, joined The Hartford in 2015 as Chief Underwriting Officer. During his tenure, he has held various leadership roles, including his recent promotion to President in early 2025. His work has focused on advancing underwriting capabilities, expanding risk appetite, and implementing a holistic go-to-market approach to foster collaboration across business units.

Under Swift’s leadership as CEO and CFO, the company underwent a transformation that included strengthening its financial profile and significantly increasing net income ROE and share price. Swift will continue to oversee corporate strategy and serve as an advisor to the incoming CEO.
