The History of Sound arrives on SkyShowtime

The film ‘The History of Sound’, directed by Oliver Hermanus and starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor, is now available for streaming on SkyShowtime.

Set against the backdrop of the early 20th century, the story follows two men, Lionel and David, who meet at a Boston music conservatory in 1917. Driven by a shared passion for folk music, they embark on a mission to record folk songs on wax cylinders. Their connection is interrupted by World War I, but they reunite in 1919 to continue their work in the countryside of Maine. The narrative explores themes of love, loss, and memory, focusing on how music can preserve moments that are otherwise lost to time.

The film received recognition at the Cannes Film Festival, where it was nominated for the Palme d'Or and the Queer Palm. It also competed for the Emeric Pressburger Award at the Miskolc International Film Festival. Critics have highlighted the performances of Mescal and O’Connor, as well as the film's visual atmosphere and production design.
