The Hollies announce retirement after 63-year career

The Hollies, the influential British Invasion band, have announced their retirement from touring after a career spanning more than 60 years. The decision follows the departure of guitarist Tony Hicks, 80, who is stepping away from touring due to health reasons. In solidarity, drummer Bobby Elliott, 84, has also decided to retire.

Hicks and Elliott joined the group in 1963, serving as the final remaining links to the band’s classic era. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-inducted group achieved significant international success with hits such as ‘Bus Stop’, ‘He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother’, and ‘The Air That I Breathe’.

The band expressed immense gratitude to their global fanbase in a social media statement, marking the end of a continuous performing tenure that began in the early 1960s.
