The Ice Road film details plot and cast

The 2021 action thriller “The Ice Road,” written and directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, follows a high-stakes rescue mission in northern Manitoba, Canada. After a methane explosion traps 26 miners in a diamond mine, a team must transport heavy wellhead equipment across unstable, thawing frozen lakes to save them.

The mission is led by Mike McCann, played by Liam Neeson, alongside his brother Gurty, played by Marcus Thomas, and expert driver Jim Goldenrod, played by Laurence Fishburne. The team also includes Tantoo, played by Amber Midthzer, and Varnay, played by Benjamin Walker.

As the convoy navigates thin ice and storms, the crew discovers the mission is being sabotaged. The interference is orchestrated by George Sickle, played by Matt McCoy, a mining company executive. The sabotage aims to prevent the rescue to conceal the company’s negligence regarding dangerous methane levels that caused the initial accident.
