The Invite Olivia Wilde HBO Max A24 streaming success

Olivia Wilde's R-rated comedy-drama ‘The Invite’ has become the most popular movie on HBO Max following its U.S. streaming debut on October 23, 2026. The film, produced by A24, reached the top of the platform's rankings within a day of its release.

Directed by and starring Wilde, the film features an ensemble cast including Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. An adaptation of the 2020 Spanish film ‘Sentimental’ (also known as ‘The People Upstairs’), the story centers on a dinner party between a struggling married couple and their neighbors that unravels into uncomfortable confrontations regarding sex and marriage.

The film follows a successful theatrical run that began with a limited release in June 2026 before expanding nationwide in July. The production features a score by composer Devonté Hynes, who utilized the cello to add a distinct musical presence to the dialogue-driven chamber comedy.
