The Isley Brothers settle legal dispute over group name

A long-standing legal dispute regarding the rights to the name ‘The Isley Brothers’ has been resolved. The lawsuit was originally filed by original member Rudolph Isley against his brother Ronald, claiming joint ownership of the group name following the 1986 death of co-founder O’Kelly Isley. Rudolph, who had retired from the group decades ago, alleged that Ronald was using the name improperly without providing compensation. Although Rudolph Isley passed away shortly after filing the suit, his estate continued the legal proceedings. The parties have now reached a settlement and the suit will be dismissed, though the specific terms remain undisclosed.

Separately, 85-year-old frontman Ronald Isley recently addressed fans during a performance at Philadelphia’s Dell Music Center, revealing that he had recently spent five weeks in the hospital. Supported onto the stage by his wife, Kandy Isley, the singer shared the news during an emotional set that included the group’s classic hits.
