The King’s Trust celebrates 50 years of youth support

The King’s Trust is celebrating its 50th anniversary, marking five decades of supporting disadvantaged young people in the United Kingdom. Originally founded in 1976 as The Prince’s Trust, the charity was established by King Charles III using £7,400 from his Royal Navy severance pay to combat high youth unemployment and economic recession.

To commemorate the milestone, Buckingham Palace and the charity released a retrospective highlighting the role of music and performing arts in their mission. The organization noted that music has been integral to raising millions of pounds and amplifying young voices. Notable musical contributors recognized include Beyoncé, RAYE, Elton John, Jools Holland, the Spice Girls, Paul McCartney, and Duran Duran.

Over its history, the Trust has supported more than 1.3 million young people, providing mentorship, financial grants, and vocational training. The organization reports that its work has generated approximately £11.4 billion in social value by helping youth gain skills and transition into education or employment.
