The Lera family history of migration from Spain to Mexico

Dr. Jorge A. Lera Mejía has documented the migratory and commercial history of the Lera family, tracing their roots from Santander, Cantabria, Spain, to the coasts of Tamaulipas, Mexico.

The family lineage began with César Ambrosio De Lera Ortíz, born in Santander in 1895. His parents, Luis De Lera and María Ortíz de Lera, were merchants who raised eight children in a household defined by entrepreneurial values and responsibility. Driven by the economic and social transformations in Spain during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many young people sought opportunities in the Americas.

In 1915, amidst the First World War, César Ambrosio De Lera Ortíz and his brother Armando emigrated to America aboard the vessel ‘Alfonso X’, eventually pursuing a future in Mexico.
