Aspyr Media releases Lord of the Rings: War in the North Legacy Edition
Aspyr Media has announced the surprise shadow drop of ‘The Lord of the Rings: War in the North – Legacy Edition’. This remastered version of the 2011 action RPG, originally developed by Snowblind Studios, is now available on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2.
The Legacy Edition introduces several modern technical improvements, including support for 60 FPS on compatible platforms, 4K resolution, target locking, an updated UI/UX with health and mana bars, and an autosave system. Players can once again control the three heroes—Eradan, Andriel, and Farin—with the new ability to switch between them dynamically during gameplay. The title retains its signature cooperative modes, supporting up to three players online and two players in local split-screen (except for the Nintendo Switch version).
Set in Middle-earth during the events of the original trilogy, the story follows a new fellowship fighting the forces of Agandaûr in the North. Aspyr noted that this release, licensed from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, is the first of potentially many classic Lord of the Rings titles they plan to remaster for modern audiences.
