The Lost Children of Tuam film released in Ireland

The film ‘The Lost Children of Tuam’, directed by Frank Berry and produced by Liam Neeson, has been released in Irish cinemas. The film depicts the campaign of amateur historian Catherine Corless to uncover the truth regarding the deaths and burials of hundreds of children at the former Tuam Mother and Baby Home.

Corless’s research and subsequent investigations have led to the ongoing excavation of a site believed to contain the remains of 796 infants who died at the St Mary’s institution between 1925 and 1961. Since work began last year, an international team of forensic archaeologists has identified the skeletal remains of 99 babies and children.

The film addresses the historical abuse and neglect involving the Bon Secours order and the broader social context of the era. Producer Liam Neeson expressed a sense of obligation to use his platform to give a voice to the deceased children and seek accountability for the events.
