The Mandalorian series concludes as Disney+ film underperforms

The live‑action Star Wars series The Mandalorian ran on Disney+ from 2019 through 2023, with the third season billed as its final chapter. The franchise then shifted to a theatrical release, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which opened in May 2026. The film earned roughly $342‑$344 million worldwide against a $165 million budget, making it the lowest‑grossing live‑action Star Wars movie to date. After the box‑office disappointment, a behind‑the‑scenes feature confirmed the series’ run had ended, prompting speculation that the show is effectively cancelled.

Despite the setback, Lucasfilm announced several follow‑up projects: a board‑game expansion (July 31), a new trading‑card set (July 17), and a LEGO animated special slated for Disney+ on 2 September. The movie entered digital rental and purchase on platforms such as Prime Video on 21 July, and physical editions—including 4K UHD, Blu‑ray and Steelbook versions—are available for pre‑order. International distributors in Germany, Brazil, Japan and the United States are promoting the release, confirming the franchise’s continued presence across multiple media formats.
