The New York Times Pips game features color-coded domino puzzles

Pips is a single-player game released by The New York Times in August 2025 that utilizes a unique variation of dominoes. Players place tiles vertically or horizontally to meet specific color-coded conditions.

Gameplay mechanics include various constraints such as ‘Number’, where pips must add up to a specific value; ‘Equal’ or ‘Not Equal’ requirements; and ‘Less than’ or ‘Greater than’ conditions. If a player becomes stuck, the current game mechanics only allow for revealing the entire puzzle, which requires the player to restart at a different difficulty level.
