The Odyssey surpasses $1.7 billion at global box office

Christopher Nolan’s film ‘The Odyssey’ has surpassed $1.7 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming the director’s highest-grossing production and the most successful release in Universal Pictures history. The film, an adaptation of Homer’s epic, has demonstrated unusual longevity, crossing the $1 billion mark within three weeks of its July 2026 release.

With an international gross of approximately $1.1 billion, the film has overtaken ‘The Lion King’ and ‘The Force Awakens’ in overseas markets to become the 10th-highest-grossing film internationally. It also holds the distinction of being the highest-grossing R-rated film ever and the first Hollywood non-sequel or non-remake to reach $1 billion internationally since ‘Avatar’ in 2009.

Domestically, the film has earned over $600 million. Its success has contributed to Universal Pictures becoming the first studio to surpass $5 billion in global revenue this year.
