The Odyssey breaks box office records as Nolan’s highest-grossing film
Christopher Nolan’s film adaptation of Homer’s epic, ‘The Odyssey’, has achieved massive commercial success, grossing approximately $1.45 billion worldwide. This performance makes it Nolan’s highest-grossing film to date, surpassing ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ and setting a new record as the highest-grossing R-rated film in history.
Shot entirely using IMAX film cameras, the production features a large ensemble cast including Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Robert Pattinson. The film has also received critical attention for its technical elements, such as Ludwig Göransson’s soundtrack which utilizes ancient instruments like bronze gongs and lyres to evoke the Bronze Age. Additionally, actor Elliot Page has received praise for his performance as the soldier Sinon.
Following its theatrical run, the film is transitioning to digital and 4K Blu-ray formats. A companion book, ‘Filming the Odyssey: Inside the Making of Christopher Nolan’s Modern Epic’, has also been released to provide behind-the-scenes insights into the production.
